I started putting together photos for a renovation portfolio recently - and decided to post some Before & After photos to my blog.
This first project was a four unit apartment building in a historic district in Charlotte. The building was constructed in 1950 and did not fit the style of the neighborhood. Inside there was not much worth preserving.
I presented the project to the historic district, with a plan to convert it to a single family dwelling. I worked closely with the architect to create some period charm, even though the house was built nearly 30 years after the surrounding properties. We added a large front porch, period appropriate windows, under eave corbels, a beautiful two level back deck, and updated the interior with an open floor plan. Three staircases were removed from the original building and a single, wider staircase was positioned further inside the entrance, to allow for a formal entryway. The house is approximately 4400 square feet of interior living space.
